Nicolas Austin Browning

Software Engineer

Overview

I first starting programming in an AP Computer Science class in high school. That class taught java.

The majority of my coding experience was at Full Sail. These are my best projects from my time there.

I am confident in my skills with C++, C#, and Unity Engine. I have some experience with Python, SQL, and Unreal Engine.

This portfolio was also made by me in html so keep that in mind too.

Currently working on: Pandora's Party Box

As a programmer intern at A Square games & simulation I am contributing to a multiplayer party game called Pandora's Party Box.

PPB is a party game in a similar vein as Mario Party. Players compete in a series of short minigames with a winner being chosen after a set of minigames being completed.

PPB is themed around the Greek pantheon. The group I am a part of are working on the Hades zone.

My time on this project should be done by mid april.

ASquare Internship Technical Tests

Don't Explode

  • This technical test was focused on the ASquare intern's ability to implement UI, Events, and Player Input in unity.
  • Implemented UI to change scenes in Unity.
  • Implemented Player input to shut off "Alarms" through Unity event system by click.

Kill your Friends

  • This technical test was focused on containing data for game elements like the statistics of different enemies.
  • I used a player controller script I had saved from my capstone project and with minimal tweaks it worked very well.
  • Implemented multiple enemies using an abstract base class and child classes using inheritance.

Movie Roulette

  • This technical test was focused on UI menus, data input, and calculating data.
  • The intention is that a user can input options, chances for each option, and then can choose an option based on the chances the user inputs.
  • Solved complex mathematical problems using C# scripting.

Adventures of Replay

  • This technical test was focused on Debugging and Quality Assurance.
  • Within a single day I rapidly learned unity features to the extent that I could properly identify errors and solve them.
  • Bug solutions were catalogued for proper documentation as per standards articulated to me.
  • Bug report document for this technical test can be found here.

Capstone Project

Big Greasy

  • Designed and implemented game features such as Ghost AI, Rat AI, interactable objects such as doors and lights, and an upgrades shop.
  • Designed and implemented a tiered tutorial level with the intention of efficiently teaching the player all major gameplay elements.
  • Maintained a personal level of quality for every feature I was responsible for with fun and ease of use in mind.
  • Made priority visual and audio assets myself in order to keep the project moving. Including a racetrack, a mousetrap, UI elements, particle effects, Sound FX, and more.
  • Conducted independent playtesting to source feedback on the project during development.
  • Ensured minimal conflict free pushes to Git Repository and maintained problem solver mindset throughout the development process.

My last 4 months at Full Sail was spent developing 'Big Greasy'

Big Greasy is a cooking simulator game where you play as a fry cook at a fast food restaurant with a twist. The restaurant is haunted!

This project is by far the most comprehensive and complete project I've done yet.

This is the link for the trailer for the game on YouTube.

Midterm Project

Forecast Armageddon

  • My midterm Project at Full Sail was a game called 'Forecast Armageddon'
  • Forecast Armageddon was intended as a tower defense game that functioned with a card system.
  • I was mainly focused on writing relevant scripts for the enemies.

Game Jam Project

Forecast Armageddon

  • A friend and I, attempted to join the WOWIE! game jam on itch in August of 2022. We called it Security Shift.
  • Ethan Stanks and I were wholely responsible for writing scripts and creating assets.
  • It was a great learning experience. Unfortunately due to outside circumstances and our limited experience at the time the game wasn't finished.
  • The public GitHub can be viewed here.
